If you are an avid biker, you have probably spent a considerable amount of time and money customizing your bike in an attempt to make it faster, lighter, more durable, more versatile, or simply to make it look better. There are countless things you can do to your bike to make it an even better machine than it already is, and some of them will help enhance the performance of your bike immeasurably and make it more like your own. Here we present you with some bike hacks that address specific issues and make your bike the state-of-the-art machine that it should be!

Replace your pedals
Even if you have spent a lot of money on your pedals, there is a good chance that its performance can be improved. Most pedals are constructed with the spikes that grip the soles of your shoes facing forward. Although this is appropriate for mountain biking, this would present a problem in day-to-day use. In order to fix the problem, you may try bending the spikes to a more suitable position using pliers or a vice grip. Keep in mind that this will only work on pedals with metal spikes. You should also take care not to bend the spikes too much, too quickly, or too frequently so as to avoid breaking them.

Improve your gear shift
With most gearshift systems, it can be difficult to tell what gear you are in. Here is a simple fix for that using tape. All you have to do is to cover will the “incorrect” gears with tape, using one that does not leave sticky residue. This fix is especially suitable for you if you find that your handlebars tend to more around too much when you go fast, preventing you from seeing what gear you are in clearly.

Get better handlebars
While you are at it, you might want to consider changing out your handlebars as well. This is especially advisable if you experience sores frequently. When mountain biking or even just doing occasional jumps without gloves, more tape or even rubber coating material can work wonders in terms of preventing sores.
